Chairman’s report – 2016

Welcome to the Solihull Open Exhibition website.  I hope that you appreciate the excellent award-winning images on these pages.

The 2016 exhibition was again hosted by Solihull School and the Society is extremely grateful for the facilities and assistance offered by the school and in particular Donna Trim, the Head of Art at the school, whose enthusiasm and help have been invaluable.

I am pleased to report that the total number of entries for this year exceeded those of both previous years, and I am particularly happy that the number of prints submitted rose significantly from the previous two years.  The intention is that Solihull Open will retain prints, and thus a print exhibition, for the foreseeable future.  Grateful thanks to all who entered prints this year and I hope you will continue to support this exhibition in future.

Acceptance rates across the board are broadly similar to last year with the exception of Nature Prints where the rate is now more in line with the other categories.

The Exhibition is only made possible by the efforts of the Exhibition team who get a big vote of thanks from me.  Those with particular roles are, in no particular order; Tony Moir (Treasurer), Bob Bob Breach (certificates, labels, production of the exhibition DVD, and organising our print storage), Bob Bracher (engraving) and David Eaves (design and production of the printed catalogue); other members are credited elsewhere on the website.  Thanks are also due to PhotEx exhibition software.

Our judges for all categories this year were Tony Broom CPAGB, Peter Rees FRPS, MPAGB, EFIAP/p, BPE5* and Bob Underhill APAGB, AIFP who stepped in at very short notice to replace Barbara Lawton who had to withdraw due to health problems.  We hope she experienced a speedy recovery.  We are very grateful for their hard work selecting the images for us all to appreciate.

Jim Hiscox, Exhibition Chairman
